Common Open Deck Freight Equipment
Flatbed Trailers
The most commonly used open-deck trailer is a flatbed. With a single, long platform, flatbeds vary in lengths, usually between 48' to 53' in length. Used in transporting many items such as steel, lumber, etc.
Step-Deck Trailers
A two-level deck that "steps" down from a shorter front platform to a longer rear platform, as the name implies. If you need to transport cargo that exceeds the height limit of a standard flatbed, you should consider using a step deck trailer. The additional depth can help move taller freight while still fitting under the 8'6" legal maximum.
Conestoga Traliers
Similar in most ways to a flatbed and dry van combo, with all the benefits of loading from the side or rear of a flatbed, while also having a rolling tarp-on-frame system to keep your product safe from the elements.
Hot-Shots
Hotshots are heavy duty pickup trucks (usually dually's) that pull all types of trailers ranging up to 40' in length.
Removable Gooseneck Trailer (RGN)
RGN's have a low riding trailer deck that detaches at the front, allowing it to rest on the ground to form a ramp. This ramp allows you to drive vehicles onto the trailer and then re-attach it to the tractor for hauling.
